I stumped support with this question. Help would be appreciated.

I have site.com up and running.

For marketing reasons, I have obtained a new domain name (and pointed it to Sonic servers). The new name is newsite.com

How do I change my hosting account so the currently existing site (site.com) becomes newsite.com?

Second question: I want the site.com to redirect to newsite.com. What is the best way? htaccess?

So the only place the site.com name should show up is in the redirect. For visitors, the browser should always show newsite.com.

Thanks.

1) Add hosting for newsite.com and copy files over from current hosting for site.com

2) Use Sonic's Member Tools (https://members.sonic.net/websites/hosting/type/) to change the hosting type on site.com to DNS only and check the box to redirect site.com to newsite.com

Let me know if you need additional assistance!
