Hi, All,

I have a domain registered through Sonic.net, and I use Sonic.net DNS service for the domain (processing just email). Let's call it foo.net.

I also have a Google Apps account, that until the end of this year, has DNS provided by a third party. I only use that account for email.

I would like to add mk.foo.net to Google Apps, so that anything sent to @mk.foo.net gets sent to Google Apps to process.

Can I create that subdomain with my current Sonic.net DNS service, then register it with Google Apps and create the MX records, so that mail sent to anything @mk.foo.net gets directed to Google Apps?

I inquired of Sonic.net support. The response indicated that I should be able to add the CNAME, but questioned whether I would be able to add the MX records, recommending a separate hosting account for this. However, the rep recommended that I ask in the forums, suggesting other members may have faced the same situation.

Has anyone else tried this? All advice welcomed.

Google's instructions for doing this are in the following links:

Thanks for your help with this! ...cheers! -mk

Mike, just us the zone editor in the membertools to add the required records for "mk" on the zone "foo.net" as instructed by google. It should be very straight forward. Their instructions will probably all be assume that you're using a domain like "foo.net" but it should be interchangeable with "mk.foo.net".

Perfect. That's what I was hoping, Kelsey, but I was looking for some validation first. :-)

I'll set it up next week. Thanks for the tip!

Life got in the way, Kelsey, but I finally got a round tuit and configured the subdomain and made the DNS changes. Mail to @mk.foo.net is getting delivered to my Google Apps account. Thanks again!
