Wordpress plugin feature not working.

I can't access my plugin directory to add, activate, or deactivate any plugins. So I did the following.
1. Renamed existing plugin directory to (_plugins)
2. Added a new directory called plugins
3. Tried to add a new plug via Wordpress, but no luck.
4. Copied an old plugin (Akismet) into the new plugin directory, but no luck.

I keep getting this error: Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Help. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim

The server logs indicate the problem arose shortly after you installed plugins around 11am on March 22nd. Without logging into your wordpress install as the admin I cannot provide much more insight. Notwithstanding please let me know if you need extra help.

Hi,
I do need extra help. Sorry, but we've had several websites with Sonic for many years and not had problems like this.
The problem persisted well before March 22. On March 22, I renamed the plugin directory and then created a new plugins directory, with no plugins installed. And it's still not working. Sorry, but I'm running out of ideas and technical expertise to help.

Have you tried disabling all themes and plugins to see if the problem is resolved? If so then go back and add them one at a time until you find what is causing the error.

I renamed your plugins folder (to plugins.old) and created a new plugins folder that is empty. Try again to access some of those admin sections and see if the 500 error persists. If the problem is fixed then you can start re-enabling plugins one at a time to find what is conflicting. Let me know how it goes, and if you need additional assistance.
