Do Mailed Request Sonic Fiber Now Postcards mean Progress for Lawndale, CA Fiber?

My next door neighbor just got a postcard in the mail from Sonic

“Request Sonic Fiber now before this two months free offer is gone!”

Says go to Sonic dot com slash Request

I’ve encouraged my neighbor to sign up. But it’s confusing to many people.

Does this mean construction is moving closer?
I’ve had mine requested for over a year. The Fiber Status tool shows as “Pre-Construction” still and has for some time.

I’m hoping you wouldn’t waste the $$ on mailers if there wasn’t a plan here to build.

Please @Dane, let’s get Fiber in the rest of Lawndale! (north of Marine, South of Rosecrans). This area was neglected by AT&T and Verizon/Frontier FiOS.

And of course, any existing customers will be migrated once the fiber network is built. (In other words, don't pre-order fiber as a new customer if you're an existing customer - that'll result in two accounts and double billing!)

Awesome. Not an existing (ATT/Sonic) customer sadly - just someone who pre-ordered/requested March 2023.

We've found that many of our projects are being delayed or even totally blocked by local permitting issues. So there are two things that you could do that'd be really helpful:

First, I'd encourage you to make a public comment at a City Council meeting or via email to the City Council to let them know that you're excited about Sonic fiber being deployed in your community, and that you hope that City leadership will support rapid deployment of this essential modern utility. Talk briefly about how much good connectivity means to you, as well as the savings from having more than just the traditional two old duopoly infrastructure providers there. Because when cities are unaware that residents are interested in the new fiber-optic utility, they may create barriers to deployment that can be insurmountable.

Second, it's very helpful for us to have as many pre-orders in each neighborhood as possible when we reach activation day. If we can get 10%-20% of households pre-signed up, it results in a much more efficient installation process, as we can do the drops in bulk, schedule trucks to remain in the neighborhood all day, etc. So, letting folks know via social contacts, telling the neighbors, posting on Nextdoor or local Facebook groups, etc, is all a big help to us.

Are there any updates you can share? New year, some new council and staff. Happy to try and make some voices of support happen.

It’s brutal that my quadrant - if you look the maps from ATT Fiber and Frontier - we are basically a box with fiber available to the north of Rosecrans to the south of Marine, to the east of Hawthorne Blvd or west of Inglewood Ave - but not in our box, which is closer city hall too.

Status tool still says pre construction.
2yrs almost since first pre registered.
