Hello!
I mean your particular address and the area around it. Different areas have different restrictions. Your area/address is waiting for MUNI permits. If someone down the street is able to get installed, that means we are not waiting for any permits and are able to move forward. I hope this clears up any confusion.
Best Wishes!

Hello!
What parts are unclear to you?

You previously said:
"Your area/address is waiting for MUNI permits."
Firstly, you're not specifying what "your area" is. It's like someone waving their hand around vaguely while say, "You know... all this."
Second, saying that we're still waiting for MUNI permits doesn't square with Sonic installers literally two blocks away connecting residences to live fiber Internet. They share the exact same fiber cables on the poles as us (I have walked this route for the past three years following all the Sonic cables to see where they lead to, and yes, these are the exact same cables that run right in front of our house.) Everything is overhead south of Cortland, so there are no crossings with MUNI lines that would require trenching/permits. If Sonic fiber is live two blocks away, there is no reason for anything in my area to be dependent upon MUNI permits.
I appreciate Sonic being more conservative with their time estimates now, rather than being too optimistic and then having to shift the dates out repeatedly. Except that this time it appears that actual, real installation is imminent, in which case we need to plan our schedule to make sure we're around for an installer to show up. I don't want to be caught by surprise, miss an installation window, and then get kicked down to the bottom of the queue. So precise, accurate information from Sonic is important.

Your address is waiting MUNI permits. This information comes straight from the project managers who oversee the installers in the area. These are permits to turn off the power lines and work on the poles so our techs dont get zapped. These are done in areas(Im guessing 1 block at a time). While some areas are able to be turned off now, it does not mean we are able to turn off the lines in your area, address, or block. There should be no worries about missing an installation window. We will work with you to get an installation date that works best for you.
Best Wishes!
MUNI? (There are no overhead MUNI wires south of Cortland.) Do you mean PG&E?
Ok, thanks. There should be no worries about missing an installation window. We will work with you to get an installation date that works best for you.
Hello!
From my understanding and information gathered from MUNI's website, (this could be incorrect as I'm not a PM in the area, nor do I work on any of this permitting).
"A Muni Clearance Permit is required anytime you are working near our trackway, subway, or overhead Muni power lines. The purpose of Muni Clearance Permits is to ensure the safety of construction workers performing work near this infrastructure and also protect the infrastructure from damage."
Best Wishes!
Thank you for the updates! Is there anything we can do (e.g. reaching out to Muni or the SF gov) to help unblock/streamline the permit process and ensure it goes through in a timely manner? (From this thread it sounds like these permits have been a big blocker in the past.) Very happy to help if there is anything we can do to move things along.jerrielm wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 11:06 am
Hello!
Looks like for your area we are working on MUNI permitting. This permitting request does take some time and our Project Manager in this area is working as quickly as they can to get this requested pushed to the powers that be. We are looking for a Late September - Mid October go live date if we factor in how long these MUNI permits take.
Best Wishes!
Well, so much for any sense of optimism or faith (once more) in Sonic's Fiber Status Update. Last week I saw installers one block away, using the same fiber runs that pass my house. Today I check the status page and it has jumped from September 2024 to January 2025.
This has been dragging on for three years now, with millions invested in all the fiber up on the poles, generating zero revenue. Enough with the excuses and ill-informed spokespeople on this forum, Sonic. Assign one person to park themselves at whatever office in San Francisco issues these permits and have them pester them every. single. day. until the permits and other red tape are tackled. You are losing that person's salary in potential new customers who go elsewhere because of this boondoggle.
If your Fiber Status Update is incorrect then I'll apologize here. But if it it's going to keep jumping out to 2025, 2026, never, then just shut it down.
