Does anyone have any suggestions for a small form-factor, low-power router with the following requirements?
- Run OpenBSD
- Run OpenVPN to support an entire house
- Used for Fusion (FTTN) x2 75 Mbps service

Ubiquiti EdgeRouters look like interesting options. How would an EdgeRouter X perform with such a setup (at least OpenVPN over 75 Mbps)?

Are there any other options?

Thanks!

The EdgeRouter X running stock firmware was nearing its CPU limit when I tested it with OpenVPN on FTTNx1, so I wouldn't expect it to do so well FTTNx2 speeds. I guess it's possible that OpenBSD manages resources more efficiently, though. Please post your results if you test it.

I'm on FTTN x2 maxing out my connection @ ~40 Mbps and my router's CPU averages a measly 5-10% load (AES-NI enabled). My setup:

-SuperMicro A1SRi-2558F board w/ 128GB SSD & 8 GB RAM in a SC101i case
-pfSense v2.4.4-p1 64-bit (based on FreeBSD) w/ several packages
-PIA VPN client (cipher TLS v1.2 DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384, 4096 bit RSA)
-Sonic VPN client (cipher TLS v1.2 ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384, 2048 bit RSA)

Most of my LAN devices are selectively routed over these VPNs with a few exceptions... You would have no problem handling 75 Mbps+ with a similar setup. Somewhat overkill perhaps but it gives me options when it comes to running packages (Snort, Squid, Apcupsd, etc.). I utilize and appreciate Ubiquiti equipment but found them lacking when it comes to their routers.

Qotom MiniPC (Aliexpress or you can find resellers on amazon under protectli).

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Qotom-M ... 4c4dbxJaSu

Qotom Q335G4
Intel i3-5015u
2GB ram / 32 GB SSD
pFsense 2.4.4
Sonic OVPN client

FTTN 75 mbps & easily max it out on this unit with barely any load.
