Any connectivity issues today? I'm seeing speed drops...

Hey folks...
Anyone else experiencing erratic speed drops today? I've been seeing it this morning. Rebooted my DSL modem and router, but it has remained. I don't know if it's my own network hardware or the Fusion service (or other Sonic hardware, or downstream provider).
PS I'm in San Francisco.

I, too, am experiencing seriously slow speeds today and yesterday. I just tested and have 0.18 Mbps download and 0.31 Mbps upload. I also rebooted everything to no avail. I am in San Francisco as well.

I haven't heard any reports from network operations or support about any widespread issues. Have you two checked your modem sync speed? Are you getting slow sync (which would point toward a loop issue) or just slow throughput (which could point toward a network issue)?

Dane...
Do you mean how fast it takes to sync the modem? Or is there a param somewhere I can look up somehow?

No, I mean how fast is the modem connected - what's your "sync" speed. The modem's management page should show this. For our new modems this would be displayed at
http://gateway.sonic.net/ - but other gear will vary. Generally
http://192.168.0.1/ - but varies widely.

I will check when I get home. Also, I'll report back if the problem seems to have gone away.

I just sent a message to
[email protected]'m seeing 10-15% packet loss over DSL in Santa Clara, and the DSL modem's downstream CRC and HEC error counters are increasing. The reported DSL bandwidth is 1.5Mbps up/0.5Mbps down.

Rebooting my DSL modem got rid of the packet loss, at least for now. It is conceivable that the modem is dying due to age or heat, though.

Dane...
gateway.sonic.net isn't available from home, so I guess I have an older modem.
Also, I route through a home router, so my modem's IP is not available to me from the internal network (so far as I can tell). Are you only talking about situations where people connect their modem directly to their computer or a switch, so the modem is the gateway?

Well, if it is the modem, support can get you a new one, give them a call. Could also be the line itself, they can help diagnose.
