Subdirectories to my website are returning:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /xxxx/ on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.41 Server at http://www.xxxx.com Port 80

Normally, accessing a specific subdirectory would result in a Username / Password prompt form generated as a result of a .htaccess file.

These subdirectories have worked for years, and have just begun failing in the last few days.

This is not related to the Directory Indexing changes, as I never had D.I. in place for this site.

Thank you.

Are you sure this isn't related to the directory index changes? Just add the 'Options +Indexes' to a .htaccess in the root directory and see if that restores the behavior that you're expecting.

kgc,

No, apparently I wasn't sure. That fixed it!

Thank you so much.

No problem Robert, I'm sorry that our configuration change caused some trouble for your site.

I can't find the sonic sendmail.pl program any more. Is that related? Please respond in my top level post.
Thanks,
Alan

I've always used the tool here: http://sonic.net/support/web_resources/ ... script.cgi

I suppose that it doesn't help with regard to this new problem. I did what I thought was mentioned above, now I get this:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What did I do wrong/can you fix the .htaccess Password Tool so it can once again provide a solution that functions with whatever changes have been implemented.
