Hi,

I just upgraded to FTTN from DSL. I'm on AT&T network. So I tried to use software from OpenVPN setup https://ovpn.sonic.net. It is version 2.0.18.202. It connects fine, but DNS leak test will usually show AT&T DNS servers.

From this post it sounds like Windows 10 does DNS resolving differently which causes DNS leaks in OpenVPN.
OpenVPN Version 2.3.9 supposedly fixes the windows 10 issue.

Can sonic provide a newer version for their VPN? Can I just download the newer version and replace the sonic version?

You should be able to use the newer version and will work. I have in the past used clients from both Sonic and OpenVPN.net.

The new version works and no more DNS leaking from my win10 box.

For other new users: I downloaded the community version of openvpn version 2.3.11. I copied the configuration file I got from selecting login option from https://ovpn.sonic.net. Edit the configuration file and ADD the following command to the file:
block-outside-dns. The copy it to the config diectory. In my case it was C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config\

After this click the openvpn tray icon and hit reconnect, and then it prompts you for your sonic user id and password. If all goes well openvpn will display a message it connected successfully.

To test for DNS leaks, I went to the dns leak page http://www.dnsleaktest.com. Before I usually see many AT&T DNS servers, but after adding lock-outside-dns, I see it only shows the two sonic dns servers. Its pretty easy to do just not as easy as it could be. Also the new version has a edit config file menu item which makes it easier to edit the config file.

I hope Sonic looks into using this new version for windows 8/10 users and add this block-outside-dns option to their configuration file to simplify it.
