I noticed that the last article posted on comp.sys.mac system on news.sonic is dated 7/7. However, on supernews.sonic the most recent article is dated 7/11 for the same newsgroup. New.sonic issues again?

Yes, news.sonic.net is responding but has no new postings. I just came to this forum to request that the Sonic folks give it a kick.
I've been using supernews for the past few days, but that one takes foreeeeever to process my killfiles. If that's anything Sonic can fix, then I wouldn't mind using supernews instead of news.sonic.net. But if not, then please fix the internal news server!

Yep. If Sonic could somehow increase the speed of Supernews to match what news.sonic has, when it works, I'd happily drop news.sonic for supernews.sonic.

Yes, news.sonic is dying, and no, all Usenet is being shut down. Given the level of interest in Usenet here, we simply cannot continue. I'd recommend Eternal September, Google Groups, or one of the commercial services.

Thanks. Not to be antagonistic but our original contract specified access to usenet. If we are no longer receiving that service, based on the original contract, what will Sonic do?

news.sonic.net server is the only reason I still keep my service. Fusion speed is too slow for me being 10k feet from the CO. Looks like I will have to switch back to AT&T for a land line or add a digital voice to my Comcast.

I'm in the same position here. I've stuck with sonic for over 10 years despite the paltry 2+Mbps i get all because of usenet access. Idea of switching to att/comcast irks me, but must now consider it.
I urge all other sonic customers to speak up.
Dana, pls reconsider.

We can't, it's not possible to run a modern Usenet platform with only 300 people using it. Nor should we put the substantial staff resources toward it that would be required, as that'd pull the team off of critical path items on our fiber to the home service evolution.
If you're using Usenet in any volume, I'd urge caution in considering ATT or Comcast, as they've both now got strict usage caps.

We understand the business decision to put most of your resources towards FTTH. However, there are some of us who will never see FTTH for years, if ever. So while we still have very good service, at least for those of us close to a CO, and at a reasonable cost, we will be losing a service but continue to be paying for it.
