I've pre-ordered Gigabit Fiber service in Brentwood. I'm planning to decline the RG rental, as I have my own router, which does some special things (I have a WiFi link to a nearby location, so my router has two "WAN" interfaces, and some static routes). I'm wondering how IPv6 will work. Is it 6RD? I've seen that mentioned here in some other contexts than Gigabit Fiber. If not, how is it delivered?

Unfortunately, IPv6 is not available for fiber customers yet.

OK. Thanks, Mike. I asked support via email, and was told that it is supported, but they didn't know how it was delivered. I'll stay tuned here, and pick it up when it becomes available.
It will be native IPv6 when you do provide it right? Using MAP-T/E or something else? It's still unfortunate that there's no IPv6 on the fiber product using new technology.
Were you able to decline the RG and simply have the service handed off to you via Ethernet as a normal, single dynamic IP service?Guest wrote:I've pre-ordered Gigabit Fiber service in Brentwood. Yes. I just plugged my existing router, which is configured as a DHCP client, into the ONT, and it "just worked". I'm not getting gigabit speeds through it, but that's because of limitations of my current router. With my PC plugged directly into the ONT, the Ookla speedtest was showing ~930Mbps down. I'm researching options for a new router, but not in a hurry, and waiting until IPv6 is available to see what I need to be compatible with.Boyan wrote:Were you able to decline the RG and simply have the service handed off to you via Ethernet as a normal, single dynamic IP service?
I was able to get IPv6 over Gigabit Fiber working with a tunnel through hurricane's network, but Netflix thought I was trying to work around their Geo-location and blocked me…
Does anyone have any idea how long until we get native IPv6 on the Sonic Gigabit Fiber network?

Just got my fiber install. Disappointed that I have to drop IPv6. Finally have FTTH, but not 20yr old IPv6. Why isn't native IPv6 available, and when will it be?
It's even more of a disappointment now that my FTTN is now native dual stack instead of 6RD that I'll be put back on 6RD when the fiber drop comes in a few months…
