There are reasons of late to experience disappointment with Sonic (especially among long-time customers), and now I see the $9.95 annual domain renewal fee has been jacked up 50%, to $14.95.

One could see this coming... first there was the 50% hike in WHOIS domain privacy, albeit nothing major in itself, being that went from 17 cents to 25 cents. But I took it as a portent, and sure enough...

"To cover an increase in registry costs", they said at that time.

I suppose it's just so much more expensive now to pay the computers for storing a few kbytes of registration and name server info. Could be that Sonic is just passing along someone else's pure profit & greed.

But just the same, I'm wondering if all the rest of Sonic's prices will be going up in the near future. Something's changed...

The reseller that Sonic uses for Domain Registration - OpenSRS - publishes their full price structure for all TLD's (.com, .net, .org, etc.) here:
https://opensrs.com/services/domains/domain-pricing/

You'll find that $9.95/yr doesn't cover some TLD's any more - some, such as .biz/.info, are as high as $16/yr. That's why prices were increased.

For WHOIS privacy, the annual rate recently increased to $3.00/yr as shown on their page here: (See "Contact Privacy")
https://opensrs.com/domain-add-ons/

The price hike to $0.25/mo divides exactly into the yearly price, which was increased by $1.00 this year.
I'm a proud employee of Sonic.net! :-)
