Updating WordPress failures

Our site is running an old WordPress version (3.6) and I need to update it to 4.4.1 however every time I've tried to update it there are failures with no explanation. Right now I can't install any plugins (version too old), can't improve Admin performance, and can't do some easy SEO improvements.

Other hosts don't seem to have this issue. Any one else encountering problems updating their WP version within the site? Are there other recommendations to getting this fixed?

Thanks

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. When you say you try to update and there are failures with no explanation - what do you mean exactly? Are you taken to a blank white page, with no further information? Do you get a message indicating the upgrade failed? Upon clicking update wordress, do you receive any sort of indication of 'things' going on?

That being said, it would be worthwhile to disable all current plugins prior to updating if at all possible, as an errant plugin can cause all sorts of issues. You can also try forcing a different version of PHP to run from your hosting directory, as the newer versions of WordPress require PHP 5.2+ - I'd try PHP 5.5.

Here's a link for more information regarding PHP versions and how to switch between them: https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/Php5
