I've gotten half a dozen of these popup surveys. They always say, "Dear Sonic.Net customer, You have been selected for a survey." The survey asks several pretty stupid questions, then offers me a choice of products as a reward. Why anyone would say yes to the product choice I have no idea.

This is the link from my browser's address bar: http://www.2015-isp-survey.com

If this is not an official sonic.net survey (I'm pretty sure it's not), the company should go after whoever is doing this.

I googled "www.2015-isp-survey.com". Looks like it is malware. It is likely doing a reverse dns lookup on your IP to get the name of the ISP to thus personalize it.

A link from that google search:

The answers to this seem to confirm that this "survey" is malware. If that is so, I am surprised that Sonic has not sent me an email warning about it. Why haven't they? Many many people must be submitting to this thing.

If Sonic, or any ISP emailed users about all the dangers on the net then people would accuse them of spamming.

To learn more on this sort you can Google "phishing".

The underlying nature of the problem is that these surveys don't target Sonic customers specifically. They use information related to your connection to determine who your provider is, and their survey website dynamically changes based on this; a Comcast user will see a Comcast survey, a Sonic user will see a Sonic survey, etc.

Popup Blockers will help with scammy/adware based frustrations like this!
