unwanted "service" phone calls

About every two weeks I get an email claiming to be from Sonic usually asking me to confirm something. I ignore/delete these email.

About once a month I get a call from some service claiming that my computer is infected, going to develop more problems, etc. My only problems are 1) I keep getting the annoying XP popups in the morning on booting, 2) my old version of office does not recognize .DOCX file formats, and 3) their service calls. The last call was at approximate 4:15 today, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, if that help. He or they speak very strongly accented English as if East Asian Indian, and with the background noise, it sounds like a phone bank operation. He claimed to be phoning from Delaware. After being very insistant, I was give 818-572-8423 as the phone number. Apparently that is a Los Angles number. They won't take: remove me from your list, stop calling me, go away, etc.

It sounds like your computer is infected with malware. Purchase Bitdefender Internet Security or Kaspersky Internet Security, which are two of the best in detection and uses minimal computer resources, to remove the malware and prevent any further problems. Also, report the callers in the following link.

These are scammers, usually they try to feed you a line about how your computer is sending them something because it has a virus (or whatever). Ask them if they know what your IP is, or your name, or even your phone number (they might not even have that, depending on how they set up their call center). If you're in a playful mood, tell them you're starting your computer and it'll be a minute, load up Zork, and then read the screen to them and see if they'll follow along https://archive.org/details/msdos_Zork_ ... mpire_1980 :)
