I set up my Personal Hosting website and installed Wordpress, which all seemed to go fine. But I can't figure out how to get to where I can post something. If I go to myname.com and click the Log In link on the left, it brings up a WordPress login page that doesn’t seem to recognize me at all—every possible permutation of my name and email address returns an “invalid username” message. If I go to WordPress.com, on the other hand, I can log in as myname, but it says I don’t have any WordPress sites to work on.

I wrote to Sonic support, and was told that the default login name is admin, and that I will usually want to go to http://myname.com/wp-admin to log in. But when I try to login with that username, it asks me for a password--which of course I've never set up, since I've never managed to log in. I've tried my Sonic password and my Wordpress password, but they were both rejected. I clicked the "lost your password" button and entered my email address, but no email has shown up. (I've searched for email from Sonic and from Wordpress--I don't even know who I should be dealing with!)

Any insight welcome.

Hello,

A password should have been generated as part of the Wordpress installation process, and an email account should have been provided to the Wordpress install that's associated with the admin account.

When using the lost password tool it's important to provide the actual admin username (which typically is "admin" but could have been set up as something else) or the email address that was tied to the admin account during installation. For example, if you initially provided your @sonic.net address during setup, attempting to recover the password through your @yourdomainname address would not work.

When I use the lost password tool, I enter the email address where I got my "Your site at http://yourdomainname.com has been updated automatically to WordPress 4.1.1." message. It then says that an email has been sent and to check my email for a confirmation link, but nothing ever shows up. (I checked my Spam filter too.) Is this a problem to take to Wordpress now?

Jake,

I took a moment to see peek at your Wordpress install, and it looks like you made a typo in the email address. I'll send you the login info via private message. Best of luck and happy blogging!

Thanks, Joe. I managed to get in, and I only hope my password manager remembers which combo of username and password goes with that login screen.

I think I'm having a related issue. I can login to my site (jaydeedejesus.com) with my login/pass that sonic hosts. When I try to add wordpress plugins, the same login/pass does not work.
