Just noticed the logo change this morning. Is this a placeholder or the new branding? I really hope the former. This new logo looks like someone just typed "SONIC." in MS Word and pasted it in. At first I was concerned the site was hacked!

I liked the old one well enough, it was pretty 90's retro (if 90s are considered retro yet), but it was recognizable. There's nothing about the new logo that triggers brand recognition. Just curious why the change to this style?

Think about how the person who designed the logo would feel after reading your comments.

It's a simpler logo. Simple is good, no need to be complicated. And it has an enso that looks like a Tron Legacy disc. Don't you like ensos?

Fair point, I suppose I could have worded that a little softer - my intent wasnt to hurt feelings. And who doesnt love Tron?

I have no stake in the game either way, just relaying my initial impressions on seeing it. Simple is good, but up to a point. The previous logo wasnt complicated either.

I think the logo is much better. It's much more modern and minimalist. Sometimes people just don't like change.

"Sometimes people just don't like change."

Well, let it be said that change isn't always for the better.

This is a trivial thing, and totally subjective, so the designer's hurt feelings are not an issue, no one has to like everything creative, as most creatives can attest. More power to them if they made a good fee for essentially picking a font (I know I've got it here somewhere...).

Graphic designers have to develop thick skins pretty quickly if they want to stay in the business for any length of time. The new mark has its advantages. It lends itself better to a variety of uses, ranging from the architectural graphics at our HQ to the screen printing on our marketing swag to the printed boards behind the home bench at Sharks games to the favicon image.

I'm having trouble training my fingers to type "Sonic" instead of "Sonic.net." They keep trying to type the extra four letters. :-)

Me too. It's not important for the website, but staff have new email address at "dot com" that I'm finding challenging.
