I looked at a bunch of posts back about three pages and found nothing about installing an email list for a group of people. Tech support at Sonic will not provide any help, I am on my own. There are about fifteen categories and the first one "General" has 31 questions that have radio buttons with either "yes" or "no" as possibilities. Each has a link for help but that greek provided only serves to make things worse for me, a graphic designer not a tech person.

My question... can anyone offer where help exists, either in written form, an installation guide, or a person who can do this?

Thanks,

Jim

Hello,

What are you looking to do with your mailing list? There are dozens of options because there are so many different behaviors people want from their mailing lists. By default it's set up as a discussion list, where anybody can send to it (or reply to a message) and it goes to everybody currently subscribed.

We want a private email list so individual members can communicate to all other members at once, and see each others responses, That's it.

That's basically what things are set up for by default, so mostly you just need to send subscription invitations through the Membership Management interface.

Things I would check if I were you:

Under "general" is it set to send replies to the list or to the poster? If you want big discussions between everybody, replies should probably go to the list.

Under "Privacy Options" (specifically "Sender Filters") the first option is "By default, should new list member postings be moderated?" For a discussion list this should be "no."

Also under "Sender Filters" check what "Action to take for postings from non-members for which no explicit action is defined" set to. Personally I prefer to hold non-member postings, so that a moderator can approve them if a legitimate sender accidentally uses the wrong address. I don't like to automatically accept them because it makes the list that much easier to send spam to.

Just about everything else you should be able to leave alone. You'll want to go through and fiddle with the General Options just to personalize the list with its name and description and such, but you don't really have to. Once members are on a discussion list mostly they just care about getting their messages and being able to participate.

Thank you for your help. I wasn't aware that spam could get through. I thought we would not see spam anymore since this was a private email group. We are with Yahoo now and they sell everything they get their hands on! I tried joining and unfortunately used my sonic email address when signing up (which I was required to do to get a ymail.com address) and within two hours sonic shut down my email because it had been hijacked! I refuse to use Gmail, Hotmail, or yahoo. They all want either your email address or Cell number!

Thanks again for your help

Jim
