ADT and Sonic.net Fusion

An ADT setup technician left after just 5 minutes saying that he wouldn't set up the system over Sonic.net Fusion phone line.

Background
1. I just moved into a place that already has an ADT security system. I suspect the previous tenant had AT&T phone service.
2. I set up Sonic.net Fusion service for phone and Internet.
3. I called ADT to set up an appointment to (re-)activate service.
4. ADT calls to confirm we're technically ready and among other questions asks what phone service I have. I say Sonic.net and they say that they don't support it.
5. I do a little bit of research online and call Sonic.net tech support to confirm that ADT should work over Sonic.net. Part of what I learned was that Sonic.net simply needs to register ADT's DTMF tone (or something) and then it should work fine.
6. I call ADT to let them know their service should work over Sonic.net since the phone service is POTS, and the setup appointment is rescheduled.

Issue
Today the ADT technician arrived to set up service. He asks what phone service I have and I tell him it's Sonic.net, and he says that ADT doesn't support that service. I tell him that it's just POTS, that Sonic.net has many customers with ADT, and that it should work fine. He says something along the lines of:
"Sonic.net varies voltage while adjusting Internet service parameters, and those changes may cause the security system to not work, which results in system vulnerability and exposes ADT to liability."
He says that eligible services are AT&T POTS & U-verse or Comcast (VOIP), and then promptly leaves.

Asks
Does anyone have information or stories about ADT systems having technical difficulties/issues over Sonic.net?

Can I get positive confirmation from Sonic.net or its customers that there are working ADT installations over Sonic.net Fusion?

Can Sonic.net help me communicate with ADT to help them understand that their service will work over Sonic.net Fusion, and provide consultation or support to the technician so they can/will proceed with setup?

Thanks!
Robert

It's POTS, so it should work fine.

But if they won't install, why not choose another alarm company? Maybe Vivint, or Frontpoint?

Hi Dane,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'd like to take advantage of the existing ADT system, as it means a lower up-front cost and better contract terms.

I was hoping for some more concrete information I could provide to ADT that can overcome their speciously-founded resistance.

Thanks,
Robert

They seem to be convinced that only an AT&T landline is compatible, and they likely have never encountered a landline from another firm, so they lump us in, incorrectly, with services like Vonage and Ooma. Maybe your best course is to just tell them "yup, it's a conventional landline", and see what happens. Do let us know!

I had similar behavior from Bay Alarm here in Oakland ("we don't support that") but telling the installer it was a regular landline was ultimately successful.

We have quite a few customers with ADT service at their businesses and households. When they come to install it, please make sure to ask them to filter the alarm system as well.

So did ADT install a filter and I presume this is a filter inside the Alarm control panel box and is there a specific name for this filter as I don';t think this can be a standard ADSL2+ filter
