Unable to dial just one particular number

I'm having difficulty dialing just one particular long distance number. It's a residence number in the 701 area code. It may ring a few times and then go silent. Or it may ring and I get some acknowledgement message and then hold music. Last time it was a Toto song. (no kidding, I think it was Rosanna.) I rarely use long distance and so far it's just been the one number. I seem to remember that I've gotten through on a couple occasions. Any ideas? I immediately dial the number with my cell phone and that works fine.
