Mysql memory too low?

I'm using a WordPress plug in called Backup Buddy and have so far been unable to get even just a database backup to complete. When I contacted their tech support, they said "The mysql server maybe also running out of memory? May need to contact host to see if mysql memory is too low preventing from selecting much from the database or if any tables are crashed."

I am not a developer and have NO idea how to solve this problem. I contacted Sonic's tech support and they asked me to post the question on this forum.

Could someone please help?

What is happening when you try to have the plugin create a backup? Are you seeing a specific error? If not please describe what takes place and I will try to assist you.

You are able to backup your database(s) using the member tools:
https://members.sonic.net/databases/phpmyadmin/
Once you login to phpmyadmin just click export and proceed.

Thank you so much for your reply. Once the back up starts, it goes through a number of steps and then seems to stall and then it gets in an endless loop of "Waiting For Function `backup_Create_Database_Dump` To Complete".

Their tech support asked me to "force compatibility mode on the database dump" in the settings page, which I did and tried a back up again - same problem. They also asked me to change the "compatibility mode max rows per select" to something like 400 instead of 2000, which I did, and to check to see if the "table wp_comments" was damaged, which I did and it wasn't. Back up still not working.

Thank you for the tip on backing up using member tools, which I'm going to do right now. The other features of Backup Buddy (such as the restore function) are why I purchased.

Oh gosh. Not sure I know what to do at the export database screen. Do I leave everything set to the defaults? Could you please walk me through that?

Absolutely! Once you are at the export screen look to the bottom section that is labeled "Save as file" and check the box directly to the left, then click "Go" on the bottom right side. This will download a file ending in .sql to your computer. Let me know if you need any additional assistance.

I see that this plugin has logging features available, if you continue to have issues see if you can set the logging level to "Everything" and try the normal backup procedure. If it fails we can use the log output to figure out what is happening (you can email the log as an attachment to [email protected] and use the subject attn:cdkeen). Good luck!

The export seems to have worked fine. Not sure how I would restore that file if I had to, but that's a topic for a different day. :D Thank you for your help on that.

Import works about as easily as export does, so don't worry! Also I emailed you back about the log, we can keep this dialogue going via email now! Thanks for choosing Sonic.net!

For anyone else who might be having a similar problem iThemes support provided the answer: "switch from
modern mode to classic mode in BackupBuddy's settings page..problem solved."
