Anyone still using a Pace 5268AC?

9+ year fiber customer here, and I'm still using the Pace 5268AC that was standard equipment at the time. Now that I have a WiFi 7 compatible computer I think it's finally time I upgraded. I'll likely get my own router this time around after realizing I've spent over $1100 on rental fees and not had to use Sonic's wiring repair services at all (likely a testament to the quality of their service), though they did replace the Pace once due to a physically broken Ethernet port. That said, I have a couple of questions...

1) Should I choose to get an eero from Sonic, would the rental fee of the eero replace the $10 fee they're charging me for the Pace, or is it an additional fee?

2) What does Sonic charge for wiring repair if you don't rent their router?

3) What portion of the fiber and wiring will Sonic work on? During the fiber install the tech wired up an Ethernet wall jack from the ONT for us, but I suppose they'll work on anything as long as you pay them.

Ha, I just posted my parents still use the 5268AC. Also ~9 years ago!

These are all from memory from some phone wiring failure on my parents' home. We ended up fixing the problem ourselves.

I don't think Sonic will perform any wiring work that don't belong to them. They will ask you to hire a low voltage contractor. Wiring that belongs to Sonic is anything from the street to the ONT or their RGs.

The Eeros will replace the Pace, and they can troubleshoot the Eeros and devices having connection issues with them.

Sonic will always cover wiring up to and including the ONT. If you don't use their router, after the ONT is on you. With that said, if they wired up a jack from the ONT for you, I'd bet you can get them to cover that too.

Revisiting this topic and bringing up an important point, at least to me.

Is Sonic still actively updating their deployed 5268ACs? While trying to find specs on the 5268AC I discovered that Pace no longer exists after a number of mergers and acquisitions, so I would consider the 5268AC to be EOL unless Sonic somehow has permission to update the firmware on their own. If not, I would like someone at Sonic to explain how continuing to using equipment whose firmware no longer receives updates is not a security risk, especially since we're still paying $10/month to use it. I know I can always request to "upgrade" to an eero system, but Is it really up to the end-user to know if ISP-issued equipment is still up-to-date? Sure the 5268AC works, but just like Windows XP if it's not being actively maintained any vulnerabilities left unpatched or anything newly discovered won't ever be fixed. Paranoid? Maybe, but it's better to be safe than sorry, especially since Sonic is technically on the hook to some degree.
