Sonic Redondo Beach, CA - Not coming right?

I ordered Sonic in March, 2023 when pre-orders started, but my order has been stuck in the "Pre-Construction" stage according to the fiber status tool for more than 2 years (as of April, 2025). Despite Sonic's ongoing claims that they are "talking with city officials," there are no concrete details or specifics about their progress. I have not seen any Sonic trucks, no information has been provided to the City Council, and there has been no communication.
It seems unlikely that Sonic will be coming to Redondo Beach, CA, or the South Bay. I've heard rumors from people within the City that SoCal Edison is not allowing Sonic access to their power poles (Even though they allowed T-Mobile, Spectrum, Frontier and others to hang infrastructure on the poles). Additionally, the City's response, possibly influenced by lobbying from Frontier Communications, was to require trenching for any build-out, which is not financially feasible.
Sonic, if you are listening, you need to provide definitive details about your progress and the current hold-up as of April 2025. Will you be able to complete the fiber build-out or not? If so, when? What really is the hold up? Transparency is crucial for maintaining trust with your supporters, especially those of us who pre-ordered. I'm sure that hundreds of us would be happy to Lobby the City and SoCal Edison on your behalf. This lack of clarity is damaging your company's reputation before any cable is laid.

In other South Bay cities there is also similar issues but I'm told Sonic is still working on a resolution.

They're definitely working in the South Bay. Seems like there's progress in Lomita per this other recent thread. Let's face it there's A LOT of government red tape across the board around here.

According to some folks on Reddit - it is now in the construction phase in Hawthorne!

It really seems that all the pre-orders are just a way for them to evaluate a market's interest, not really a plan to build.

While Sonic says they are "talking to city officials", Redondo officials say they have had any contact for many months.

If they are really in discussions still, some transparency would be nice: "We met with the City and they said XXX. Our next step is this."

Having worked for a municipality, I can attest that it easily can be a left-hand/right-hand issue. There are so many departments and reporting silos that no one knows all the details about activity across all departments and divisions.
