I've been waiting for Sonic after signing up for it almost 2 years ago, is this going to ever happen? What is the hold and why is there never any updates?
We apologize for the lack of continuous updates. Unfortunately, most of the delays or complications are out of Sonic's direct control. We have to submit permits for a given area for approval by the city. Once the city approves our build, we can proceed with installations for that area. The estimates we provide our customers are when we believe the city will approve this. Sadly, when that date approaches and there is no update from the city, we extend the timeline out to allow for more time for the city to make their decision.
We realize this is much like "dangling the string" in front of you, and we apologize for that. If we don't receive a detailed update from the city, we cannot provide our customers with one. The moment we have any momentum to go forward with our build, we'll inform you of this right away. To give some examples of the delays or complications we encounter:
1. Old/dangerous telephone poles. In some areas, we cannot install our service until the city can replace old or damaged poles that won't currently hold the weight of our infrastructure. Since it's up to the city to do this, they dictate the timeline on this.
2. Aerial trespass. At times, we cannot install in a given area because this would be trespassing on someone else's property. We would then need to come to an agreement on how to proceed with that.
3. Landlords or property managers won't allow us to install additional lines on their buildings. We do everything we can to reach agreements on where and how to install our lines around said properties. This takes time and cannot be rushed.
