We live on Carlos Ave near Cypress in Redwood City (The northern end of the Oakwood Blvd oval near the Atherton border) which is currently a fiberless wasteland.

We first received the postcard from Sonic in 2019 with no deployment scheduled in our area. We have been in the "planning" stages for 7 years. No other companies offer fiber in our area. We are currently on ancient ATT DSL that has started to act sporadically.

I reached out to neighbors regarding fiber in our area and found that Sonic is available "a few houses down" in almost every direction, some on Oakwood Drive, some on Central Ave.

All of our poles are on the street so there are no easement/accessibility issues.

I see that Jacob from the escalation team sometimes responds to these posts. Is there any relief in sight for me for Sonic fiber in my area of Redwood City?

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. We do try to respond to as many of these posts as possible, so thank you for mentioning that :D

I can confirm I also see the active fiber availability on Oakwood drive. My immediate assumption is that there is an overloaded pole or some other obstacle between Oakwood and your address. I have poked our fiber engineering team to have them investigate a little further, and I will update you here when I have more information.

Update from our fiber engineering team below:

The address is serviceable but currently can not be reached due to surrounding pole failures. Utility poles require certain guidelines and standards to be met for us to attach our infrastructure. While Sonic does not own the poles, we are working to request that they be serviced so that we can complete our fiber build-outs. Unfortunately, this takes a bit of time, and there isn't a concrete timeline for this process.

As this gets addressed, you will see your fiber status progress and receive notice of an installation date and time.

Jacob -

A sincere thank you for the very detailed and timely reply. It helps to know what's preventing the expansion. I will reach out to my councilperson also to see if the city can apply any pressure to PG&E to replace whatever poles are needed.
