My friend lives in Burlingame and had a Sonic guy come to his house to apologize for the impending construction and to try to get him to sign up for Sonic. He is already in a Sonic enabled neighborhood, but 1gbit, so presumedly GPON. My friend asked about 10gbit and the guy indicated the construction is not related to being able to get 10gbit, it would still only be 1gbit.

Here's a pic, at Ralston and Crescent, in Burlingame.

When he mentioned something about wondering what they're digging up, I was confused, so he snapped the pic below.

Any idea, out of curiosity, what's up? And also, XGS-PON timeline at all while we're at it for the area?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. I have reached out to our Plant Project Management team regarding this in order to see if there is any more information we can provide.

Hopefully, I can share more information once I receive it.

Hello,

Apologies for the delayed response. This is an ongoing job for our Outside Plant Construction team. It is likely for an anchor placement that needs to be done due to anchor separation, which was the reason for USA'ing the street. We should have a team out there sometime this week to perform this work.

We don't have a timeline for the deployment/upgrade to XGS-PON for the area at this time. However, it is something we're actively working on upgrading in existing areas on our GPON circuits. It's mostly just a matter of swapping out our equipment in the central office, then swapping out the OLTs for each neighborhood and installing new ONTs in customers' homes. There will be notifications that are sent out to all pre-existing customers before it happens, as we'll need to perform maintenance for each neighborhood to do the work, which will cause brief downtime for customers in those areas.

After it's completed, customers will receive an email notification that 10gbps is available, which will provide a link to place the order if they're interested in upgrading.

Hopefully, we can upgrade your friend's area in Burlingame in the near future!

Kind regards,
Brandon C.
