@erikp, viewtopic.php?t=18111 The Facility Management Thread, has an ONGOING discussion on Apartment Building issues, and protocols.

HOWEVER; IF, (as your Thread Title, (here), states: 'AT&T Fiber in the Building'), AT&T already is offering Fiber to your Apartment Complex, Sonic.com WILL NOT, (AND MOST LIKELY), CANNOT get to you, EVER... :o :o :shock: :cry: :cry: :cry:

(Which, unfortunately, REALLY SUCKS!) This is a City Issue; NOT an Apartment Complex Issue. Cities 'tend' to NOT allow 'Same Service' Competitors, (ie: AT&T Fiber, AND Sonic.com Fiber), to offer services at the same City Locations. In fact, the City of Danville EVEN has a 'Two Cable Service Provider Competition Clause' - which means that since AT&T U-Verse, (ADSL-2/VDSL), AND Comcast-Xfinity are BOTH presently competing in Danville, that NO OTHER Providers CAN get into Danville. (NO Verizon FIOS, etc....)

IN FACT due to City limitations in Danville, the City of Danville CURRENTLY is NOT issuing Permits to 'Trench', NOR 'Micro-Trench' in existing housing communities IN Danville for Fiber To The Home Services. So, even though AT&T U-Verse, (ADSL2/VDSL), IS already running in Danville, AT&T IS NOT allowed, (by the City of Danville), to get Fiber To The Home to MOST Danville residents! (So, there again, Sonic.com HAS NO chance in the City of Danville to get Fiber To The Home, in Danville, either.)

THANKFULLY, Walnut Creek is more 'amiable' to Permit Allowances for Sonic.com!!! :D :D :D So, check with your City Rules and Regs, FIRST; (and IF there is NO 'city wide' Permit Blockage), THEN check to see IF Sonic.com IS available to your location. LINK: https://www.sonic.com/availability

BUT, again, IF AT&T Fiber is in your building, NOW, Sonic.com has VIRTUALLY NO CHANCE of getting to you, or to your Apartment Complex, NOW, OR EVER.

@erikp

IF you have Sonic.com, WHY are you stating 'AT&T Fiber in the building'??? AND, I've been in the Bay Area since 1981, living through ALL the Technology changes.... EVERYTHING, I've stated about 'City Rules and Regs' IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE! (Especially in the City of Danville. Danville Residents have been waiting for, (AND are DESPERATE for), 'Fiber To The Home'.) The City of Danville IS ABSOLUTELY refusing to Permit for 'Trenching' and 'Micro-Trenching' which is ABSOLUTELY causing havoc for residents on SLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW Internet AND THUS, providing NO solutions.

ymmv

Good Luck, and God Bless.

[EDIT:] Found This ON Page 164 - "Duopoly": viewtopic.php?t=458

This IS the 'Current Model' via the City of Danville! (Like I said, I've LIVED through ALL of this 'MESS'!!!!!)

IT TAKES, ALMOST an act of 'State Legislature', OR, an 'Act of Congress' to break through this kind of CRAP!!! The more informed the Citizenry, (Residents), the 'easier' it 'CAN' be to make change!

I've been in the IT Tech industry, (in the Bay Area), practicing my skill set, for approx. 25 Years++!!! I'm STILL NOT perfect at this; as things CONSTANTLY change, BUT, I continue to learn, (MOSTLY on my own), AND FREELY give out my extensive, and vast knowledge of Tech when asked! (I DO NOT LIE, EVER! IF I DON'T know something, I will say that, and THEN go searching for answers, AND TRY to get the right answer back to you!)

Just because you DON'T like my answer DOES NOT give you the right to call me a LIAR! I TAKE GREAT OFFENSE TO IT!

[EDIT 2:] Just found your 2020 Thread: "Fiber In An Apartment", Page 36 - viewtopic.php?t=16710

Therein, @brandonc CLEARLY states that you have "DSL with Sonic"; SO, (therefore), you DO NOT have Sonic.com Fiber OF ANY TYPE, NOR CALIBER!!!!!

As this is the case, with the Title of this Thread, (STILL), stating 'AT&T Fiber In The Building'; THEN my ORIGINAL COMMENT STANDS! IF AT&T Fiber IS in the building, YOU MOST LIKELY WILL NOT EVER get/obtain FIBER Services FROM SONIC.

This is DUE TO 'CITY' Rules and Regs.... AGAIN, with the 'City of Danville' execution Model of a "Duopoly", (mentioned in my first Edit), that IF such Rules and Regs ARE in place, then ONLY the 'number' of Services that a City allows for Fiber, or Cable WILL be permitted - AND, IF AT&T has that Fiber Permit in your location, THEN NO OTHER Fiber competitor WILL be able to gain access for THEIR Services in that same location!

THEREFORE, you'd NEED to contact the 'City' IN QUESTION, FIRST!

Again, ymmv!

Hi Eric,

Looking at your account, you have our Fusion DSL service, which is provided over resold AT&T copper lines. We no longer resell AT&T infrastructure, including Fiber, so we won't be able to provide any other service until our Sonic Fiber is installed in the area. If your apartment already has access to AT&T Fiber, you would have to switch to AT&T directly to get that service sadly.

We're currently in the planning stage of expansion into your neighborhood, which is a very early stage of expansion. Before we'll be able to do any installations, we'll still need to apply for permits from the city and physically install our infrastructure in the area. That being said, it will most likely be a decently long time before that happens. If I had to provide a very rough guesstimate, it would probably be one year or more.

If you do decide to switch to AT&T Fiber in the meantime until Sonic's Fiber is ready to install and get locked into a contract, we do offer a contract buy-out up to $200 when you switch back to our Fiber service. More info on that here : https://help.sonic.com/hc/en-us/article ... act-Buyout

Kind regards,
Brandon C.

This is not accurate. There are no limitations regarding disallowing competitors.

You are right that some landlords block access and we must fight for the tenants, and that some Cities disallow new aerial or underground construction in a variety of ways. But this is not a general policy to disallow multiple fiber providers. There are many locations where both Sonic and other competitor fiber is available today.

@Dane,

BUT, Dane, it's been discussed, (MANY times in these Forums), about 'Duopoly' Markets. The City of Danville HAS BEEN, AND STILL IS a 'Duopoly' Entity. (See "FTTH in Danville, CA" Thread: Link: viewtopic.php?t=4524 - Authored by myself, (as a Guest of Sonic.com, back in 2017. AND, from Forum Page 164 - Link: "Duopoly": viewtopic.php?t=458 Wherein on this Thread is a Link to what a Duopoly is: (Link Broken...), DOES mention a 'Duopoly'.)) Because of the Duopoly, the City of Danville has, (essentially), ruled that NO OTHER 'Cable Type' Providers WILL BE GRANTED ACCESS!!! :-O

So, where do cities like Danville go for support, or to fight a 'Duopoly' market situation? (Which, in my opinion is an unfair Market Practice, AND SHOULD be abolished to allow more, and better competition.) AND, it doesn't change the fact that my research in Danville, (prior to my move to Walnut Creek), turned up that the City of Danville IS REFUSING to give Permits for "Trenching" or "Micro-Trenching", (specifically against AT&T Fiber), in the City of Danville to allow FTTH....

Danville DESPERATELY wants FTTH, so IF a 'Duopoly' ISN'T keeping Sonic.com out of Danville; then what prevents Sonic.com from moving in to Danville at this time?

Brandon and Dane thank you for reply about the situation I might not know what's is going on in the sonic office and thank you for all off your hard work I hope one day sonic can be in where I live I am aware that its a challenge to get the city's and the apartment managers or owners to get on board to get sonic build out in a safe manner
