I want to take full advantage of my 10gig fiber. Can anyone help me?

I'm pretty knowledgeable but I don't know everything, so I'm open to learning more.

My laptop only supports gigabit ethernet but I have an Intel AX210 wifi NIC installed so I can get over gigabit speeds that way;

However, I want lower latency!

That is why I want an SFP+ port on the ONT so that I can then plug a fiber cable to my own router and then I can get an SFP+ switch that is full of SFP+ ports and then get an SFP+ NIC for my server rack that I am building so that I have the lowest latency possible AND can take full advantage of the 10 gigabits that are dying to come screaming into my home.

Another problem that I am having is that the eero MAX 7 doesn't have many features :/

My OnePlus 8T Pro 5G is capable of 6GHz wifi operation, however, it only connects to 5GHz.

Where are my enterprise technicians? How can I start the journey to accomplish all my hopes, dreams and desires?

I would love to get like sponsored to document (vLog) this adventure too, but if that isn't gonna happen: I can afford what I need to afford in order to build out this massive network infrastructure.

Thank you to anyone who reads this and chimes in.

I would also like to know if anyone knows what settings I could configure under windows for my Intel AX210 NIC so that I can ensure I get the best performance possible.

Thank you.

Fiber vs copper will have microseconds of latency difference. 1000 microseconds in a millisecond, so basically no difference to stick with copper. Latency will be the same between them.

If you just want to see an a fast speed test, buy a thunderbolt to 10Gbps adapter, run a few tests and call it a day.

Checking my logs over the last year, my peak 95th percentile usage is 13Mbps. Spending close to a grand for a router, switch and NIC just for a few cool speed tests doesn't seem worth it. Gigabit is fine 99% of the time.

I, too, wouldn't worry about the latency difference between fiber and copper. You will not be able to measure it. And if you want to connect the ONT to an SFP+ port, just plug in a 10Gbase-T SFP+ module. They're around $30-50.

Sonic's network is well connected, and latency through the ONT, my router, and multiple switches to my desktop when measured to other well-connected sites like Google, Amazon, Reddit, Facebook, etc. is generally around 3 to 5 ms round trip. I wouldn't worry about the copper links.

I think there is value to a good home 10Gb network setup. I have my file server and primary Mac workstation on 10GbE (for years, now), which allows me to edit photos quickly, for example. Now the WAN link is 10Gb, too. That's great for speeding up some things, like downloading packages and OS updates, as long as the other side has the bandwidth, too. But it is true that the quality-of-life improvement compared to symmetrical 1Gb isn't huge. It'll make no difference at all for things like, say, multiple simultaneous family members streaming movies.

But the cost doesn't have to be anywhere near what the prior poster suggested.

A simple way to do this is just to get a decent switch with multiple SFP+ ports and a bunch of GigE or 2.5Gbase-T ports, and a router with multiple 10Gb ports. See the thread mentioned above for suggestions for the latter, including my recent post for the $220 router I'm using. For the switch, 10GbE has been around for a couple decades in the enterprise space, so a couple hundred bucks will get you very good used equipment on eBay.

My thing is that I basically want to be able to offer services that utilize and saturate my whole 10 Gbps connection.

I need to share this with the world !

I'm down to buy a whole server rack and start serving !

+1 vote for SFP+ interface to keep my MikroTik equipment cool and quiet.
I would pay the full retail price to Sonic for an SFP+ interface ONT.
