Possible to switch macbook from imap to pop?

Hi Folks,

I am temporarily dependent upon my MacBook (OS 10.8.5) for everything and I'm wondering if I can set up Apple Mail, currently configured as imap, to be pop? I want to do this because with imap I lose older emails that are valuable. I've looked about for help on the web but have yet to come across anything. Maybe the MacBook doesn't allow for pop? Or is there a way that I don't know about to preserve these older emails on my MacBook?

Thanks for your advice

Dunno ... but if Apple Mail doesnt support it then you can install another mail client that does.

How does using IMAP lead to you losing older emails?

As Kelsey suggests, IMAP shouldn't cause you to lose older emails, unless the you have configured Apple Mail to delete older messages automaticaly.

That being said, Apple Mail supports POP3 and IMAP (along with Microsoft Exchange). You may have to configure a new mail "account" in Apple Mail, as some mail clients don't have the capability to change the protocol of a configured "account."

The beauty of IMAP is that you can access the same persistent mail storage from multiple devices. This allows for seamless access from PCs, laptops and mobile phones, with consistent inbox between them. POP is much more limited, and isn't what you'd want to set up.
