Hi everyone,

Has anyone configured Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) stock VPN client successfully? I tried - failed; even imported the configuration file provided by Sonic - same, fail. I used the obvious settings - password auth and user ID and password that I know work for the Windows OpenVPN client but the connection still fails.

The issue is that the stock OpenVPN client wants you to specify a CA certificate or else you can't even add the VPN connection? I tried both Sectigo RSA and User Trust (both extracted from the URL of ovpn.sonic.net) and still - fail.

Will appreciate ideas and guidance. Thank you!

The configuration file imported into NetworkManager for me. No extra steps were required to configure certificates but I did have to manually add a value for "User name" under "Identity." However, I got the following error when trying to connect:

Code: Select all

AUTH: Received control message: AUTH_FAILED,Data channel cipher negotiation failed (no shared cipher)
I changed the "Cipher" setting under "Advanced" -> "Security" to AES-256-GCM and the connection succeeded.
