Every time there is a power outage the same thing happens once it is restored: I pick up the phone to make a call and get a message "Device not registered".

Remind me how to fix it please.
and
Will this always happen? Can I do something to make it stop?

Okay, nevermind. I unplugged and replugged everything and at some point it all got sorted. No idea what plug did the job or why, but my dial tone is back where it belongs.

Possibly the ATA recovered from the power outage before the modem/router, tried to get back online, and couldn't, so it gave up without registering? Maybe just unplugging the ATA will cure it?

Is the ATA that little black box with the three blue lights?
Well, the real story is that it failed.
Sonic will send me a new one tomorrow.

I'm not sure what lights are on it, but the ATA is where the phone line plugs into. Glad to hear that you're getting it resolved!

I apologize for the inconvenience but losing power can sometimes cause the ATA to lose registration. Generally, just unplugging it from power for 10-15 seconds and reconnecting should resolve the problem, but if not it's possible that we may need to reset authentication on our end. You can give our Technical Support team a call at (855)394-0100 any day between 8 AM-10 PM or you can send us a text at (833)836-0300. We'd be happy to assist you.

I called yesterday and we tried that but the ATA did not survive the power outage. A new one is on the way today.
