I have an old Bravia xbr-55x850B and have been using an old gen 1 chromecast with Comcast.

I switched to Sonic internet, but it will connect to my devices but will not cast to the TV. I'm thinking I may have to update the chromecast, but I can't do a direct cast over from my Pixel 4a phone or using any streamer on any other device.

Sonic is much cheaper than Comcast so obviously I'd like to use it.

Anyone using Sonic with one of these TVs and can it cast? Sonic works as internet on all my devices, it just doesn't cast to the TV. Reading these posts it looks like it has major problems casting

Hi Mary,

Thank you for reaching out we always appreciate hearing from our customers. I was able to take a look at your account and I can see that you have an eero provided by Sonic for your router. My educated guess is that the reason for the issue is that the eero is a newer generation than the chromecast. Thus what needs to happen is Legacy mode needs to be enabled on the eero network.

Our support team can assist with this by having you call in to (707)-547-3400 between 8 am and 10 pm PST 7 days a week.

You should also be able to do this by following the steps below

1. Open the eero app and tap Settings on the bottom right
2. Tap Troubleshooting
3. Tap My device won’t connect
4. Tap on My device can’t detect Wi-Fi 6
5. Toggle Legacy Mode on
6. Your device should now be able to detect and join your eero network

tried your suggestion and was able to switch to legacy. It still isn't working. google home looks like it's hooked up to the new network, but it will not link any devices. It's still looking for the old modem name.

I also tried the following:

In Google Home
Went to devices
Add device and go to google Nest or partner device (this includes Chromecast it says)
Under Chose a Home I can choose the new network name
Going to Next, it only seems to recognize the old modem name

I tried setting up a different device and the same thing happens

Any ideas?

The TV is from 2014. Does it support the wifi that the eero is providing?
Maybe try to switch to 2.4 GHz band (instead of 5GHz) if eero supports it.

I read it uses wifi-direct, which uses WPS and WPA underneath. WPS is frowned upon since 2011 because of security flaws.
