Over the past six months I've noticed performance declines in RWC. At one time I was able to measure DL/UL speeds >400 Mbps. Now it's not unusual to see speeds <50 Mbps. Just now I measured 73 Mbps DL & 27 Mbps UL. Has anybody else noticed this speed decline in 2023?

Thank you for reaching out regarding these performance issues.

After looking at your account, some troubleshooting with our support team may be able to mitigate this. At first glance, it seems like your connection is being bottlenecked somewhere. This may be as simple as a bad ethernet cable or hardware-related.

When you have a chance, please get in touch with our support team by calling (707)-547-3400 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. seven days a week. If you are unable to call, we do offer chat support and email support, which can be located here https://www.sonic.com/support

Nope.,,nothing has changed in my setup (adtran ONT, cable to Eero 802.11ax mesh/modem). I was one of the first on my block to sign up for your "1 Gbps service" and I had > 500 Mbps when it began and for about 6-7 months, but then over time the speed kept dropping during busy periods.

I just measured directly from your Adtran modem - again - 50 Mbps DL/94 Mbps UL. It's decreased to <90% less than promised, and 90% less than what I measured when first connected.

Quite clearly your network has become heavily oversubscribed, or are deliberately throttling the service.

I like how people don't know anything, get all pissed, ignore all troubleshooting tips, and come to this conclusion.

Ha! Yeah, those are literally the two least likely reasons for the issue.

spassmeister, I'd recommend you work with support to troubleshoot the issue. If they can't see if there's an issue remotely, then perhaps a truck roll is in order. I can almost guarantee the issue isn't one of the two you've listed though.

Network congestion due to oversubscription and throttling are actually two common reasons for bandwidth reductions in ISPs.

The speed I reported was measured directly at the adtran ONT. I take it others have not seen any changes in the past year?

Respectfully, you don't know what you're talking about.

First of all, throttling is illegal in the State of California thanks to the California Internet Consumer Protection and Net Neutrality Act of 2018.

Secondly, it's highly doubtful that your neighborhood is oversubscribed, especially to the point that you're getting 50M/94M performance on a 1G/1G connection. Oversubscription is generally only a problem with CableCos. I have yet to read of anyone with a fiber connection with any provider (Sonic, AT&T, Fios, etc.) having serious issues with oversubscription, much less at the speeds you're seeing. I live in a dense neighborhood which, judging by the number of Sonic trucks I've seen over the past year, is almost entirely wired with Sonic at this point. I consistently test out at 1G/1G.

What's much more likely at this point is that there's something wrong with your ONT, the line feeding your house, your connection in the fiber cabinet (it's rare but not unheard of for these to get accidentally jostled when someone else in your neighborhood has an install done), or something else down the line. The only way to figure this out properly is to work with Sonic support to solve your issue.

Hello!

Thank you for the testing.

I do see that your MAC Table is full. To make sure this is not causing the issues ill be clearing it. Your service might see a brief downtime as the eero devices reconnect to our network.

After, Can you please run a speed test using https://www.sonic.com/speedtest and post the results?

Using the eero's own speed test will work as well.

Let us know!
