Hello,

We would like to change our shell from /bin/sh to /bin/bash. While we do know that:

/bin/sh -> bash

Bash behaves in deprecated shell mode when it is exceed as /bin/sh. To get full bash shell functionality, we have to exec /bin/bash at login.

The normal method of changing shell does not work due to use of YP:

$ chsh -s /bin/bash
chsh: can only change local entries; use ypchsh instead.

However ypchsh also does not work:

$ ypchsh
ypchsh: can't get local yp domain: Local domain name not set

Please change the login shell for users chongo and paulnoll from /bin/sh to /bin/bash.

Thank you.

I've gone ahead and changed your default shell over to bash - you should be able to confirm it is set by checking the output of 'echo $SHELL' on your next login.

* For security reasons, we don't allow folks to change the default shell themselves. Just send a quick email or call to support to request a different default shell.

Hi Joe,

For user chongo:

$ echo $SHELL
/bin/sh

For user paulnoll:

$ echo $SHELL
/bin/sh

It looks like whatever change didn't propagate or did not set.

Landon,

Somehow I missed that other account - your wish is my command, you should now have /bin/bash as the default for both.

Many thanks for the change to paulnoll.

The chongo account, however, still has a shell of /bin/sh instead of /bin/bash.

It seems Joe has fixed this for you:
: us; echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

Thanks for choosing Sonic.net!
