Use that HP PC as the router?tarzxf wrote:I posted earlier in the thread about a $200 machine from Woot and a 10G card from ebay. I've found the same machine on ebay without storage for $70: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155674136738
Find a cheap m.2 or sata drive you've got laying around (ask the IT team at work?), install your ebay 10G card and pfsense/opnsense and carry on.

Yes. Add a 2-port RJ45 10GBe PCIe card, and install pfSense. That's my plan. There are smaller machines, but for $70 + $50-60 for a 10g card and an old hdd/ssd/NVMe, it's not a bad start.haodiep wrote:Use that HP PC as the router?tarzxf wrote:I posted earlier in the thread about a $200 machine from Woot and a 10G card from ebay. Be very, very careful buying 10G cards on eBay or even Craigslist. A lot of those cards are knockoffs of questionable origin. If you do take a chance, be sure there's a return policy and verify the yotamark before you install it in your machine. If buying off craigslist, you should be able to verify the yotamark before handing over the cash.tarzxf wrote: Yes. Add a 2-port RJ45 10GBe PCIe card, and install pfSense. That's my plan. Can the 800G3 Mini upgrade with 10Gb card?
Per https://www.hardware-corner.net/desktop ... 0-G3-Mini/ it lacks a PCIe slot.haodiep wrote:Can I buy the HP Elitedesk 800G3 Mini instead? The SFF is too big.tarzxf wrote:Yes. The M.2 slot is for a WLAN card. Besides that, there's no external opening for a PCIe card.haodiep wrote:It has M.2 PCIe x4 slot.tarzxf wrote:Per https://www.hardware-corner.net/desktop ... 0-G3-Mini/ it lacks a PCIe slot.haodiep wrote:

I just found out you can't use a Netgate XG-7100. For whatever reason, they don't support SFP+ RJ45 modules. Thankfully, I found this out before I pulled the trigger on a used one.
