While I sit here trying to figure out how to keep myself from troubleshooting what's apparently a broader AT&T issue on my resold AT&T Fiber, I'm curious who else has been on a pre-order for an insanely long time?

Thankfully AT&T rolled fiber out right after I placed my pre-order so I've been able to have fast internet these past 3.5 years, but every once in awhile when something breaks and I have to deal with the awful process of getting AT&T to help me via Sonic support, I get frustrated. Of course none of the AT&T "my stuff is broken" utilities work when I'm not a direct customer. It takes them a couple days to even bother helping me, although, in this case, with a wider AT&T systemwide issue, I doubt they'll bother sending a tech at all.

I had a moment of shining optimism 6 months ago when some guys on a cherry picker were working on the utility pole out front of my house, and they said they were running fiber for Sonic, but nothing since then.

Hello,

We are sorry to hear about your experience thus far. We'll take a look at this to see if we can get you a more definitive answer to when we'll be available in your area. I'll be in touch after speaking with our Engineering team today. Thank you for your patience and support.

Hello again.

I spoke to our Fiber Engineering team and they did send a construction update for your area last month in September. We want to make sure you receive those updates and if not, we'll need a valid Email address so we can keep you updated. According to them, we absolutely plan to be fully integrated at your location by the end of 2022. Due to potential unforeseen complications that may arise in the field, we're not comfortable providing any more detail than this for now. When there is an update on this, we'll send you this information at the email address we have on file for you. Have a good day.

I spoke with the project manager on this today, and he sounded optimistic about the currently forecasted on-air date for your area. This is Apollo-B, you're in FDA 35, and the AIR date is currently forecast at November 30, so a bit less than two months from now. He said that "I strongly believe that we will achieve that date."

But please please do take this with a suitably large grain of salt. Many things can delay us, from weather to materials shortages to local permit issues.

How does a Sonic AT&T resold customer place a pre-order? When I go to the website, it just recognizes my address as being only eligible for the AT&T resold service. Am I automatically a pre-order by virtue of having the resold service? When I signed up close to three years ago, Sonic made it seem like their fiber would be available at my address in no time.

Thanks so much for the replies, JM and Dane! Fantastic to hear it's in the not-too-distant future. I've been happy enough to have fiber, of course (current AT&T issues notwithstanding) but who doesn't like to pay less AND have all of their internet monies going to a local ISP?

I've followed up with JM via DM to ensure my contact info is correct: I'm still receiving monthly invoices and used to get engineering updates, but the last engineering update was July 2021. Perhaps the From: address changed for those updates and I need to ensure GMail's not spamholing it. I do search my spam for "Sonic" every month or two, but I could have missed something.

You'd only want to place a pre-order as a brand new customer or for a separate location since it would not be processed as an upgrade, which would lead to double billing issues.

All of our pre-existing customer's are automatically added to our notification/update list when Fiber is announced for you area. In your case, since our Sonic Fiber isn't appearing as an option for your address on our website, it means that we haven't reached your neighborhood yet.

Once we do make an announcement for your area, you will start receiving the monthly update emails and receive a link to upgrade once it is available to order.

Thanks Brandon. I appreciate the detailed response. All good. I’ve waited this long, I will continue to wait! It’s not like AT&T is going to all of a sudden decide to be competitive with Sonic. I look forward to the day Sonic pushes AT&T out of California due to market forces.
