I live in 94117, which includes Alamo Square and Western Addition.

Are we just waiting for fiber to slowly make its way here, or are there regulations or other barriers in place? Wondering if us wannabe customers need to do something.

Our goal is to improve the quality of Internet service in America. By expanding our own Gigabit Fiber, we are able to provide top tier customer service, the fastest rates achievable in the country and our award-winning privacy policy all at an affordable rate. That being said, infrastructure construction is a large feat, and it will take some time to expand those services. Normally what prevents Fiber expansion is issues with micro-trenching or unserviceable poles that cannot accept new infrastructure. Hopefully we can get Fiber out to your area in the near future.

The project in that region (code name: Oak) is currently on hold due to issues with the safety of many of the poles in the region. I'll ask the engineering team if the pole owners have made any headway on the replacement and reinforcement of the unsafe poles which are blockers to the deployment of new fiber-optic service by Sonic there.

Just wondering if you got any info. And is there anything I, a resident can do to help get some progress there? Sounds a little more promising than the areas held up by bureaucracy, but what do I know?

Update please? If this isn’t happening anytime soon I need to rain negotiate my monthly Comcast Internet bill

Sorry for the delay in reply. No, there is no further update at this time. The region remains impaired by unsafe utility poles, as well as some isolation from the nearest central office. It's on hold for now.

The CA PUC has put new one-touch make-ready requirements into place, which we are hopeful will help resolve the issues around unsafe poles impeeding deployment. That new regulation is slated for implementation in the first quarter of 2023, so we're hopeful it'll help with some of the issues with projects like this that are stuck behind that issue. We would still need to solve the CO access portion for this region, but for now, the poles preclude any progress.

No harm in that, at least if your ETF is below the amount we offer as a credit against that when you switch.
