Hi, did anyone else receive this message from Sonic Support today about a rate change to $1 a minute starting on 8/1/2022?

I'm wondering what the reasoning for this drastic change is? It was 1-cent per minute, a minute ago. Thank you.

Rates for international calls are negotiated between the carriers. Sonic depends on a higher-level carrier (or several of them) to actually complete the calls, and is at their mercy.

Right now, Google Voice is showing $0.02 for calls to China. That could change any moment, as well.

We use a few carriers to clear our international calls, and all of them suddenly implemented massive rate changes. I'm not clear what the underlying issue is, but our suggestion is to move to messaging solutions that provide voice-over a data connection to avoid any costs when speaking with folks in China.
