Many browsers will not by default open web page that are http rather than https transport. Does anyone have a Sonic-hosted https page? If so, how did you accomplish the feat?

The situation isn’t quite that bleak: mainstream browsers indicate that http:// pages aren’t secure, but they still open. Your question is reasonable, however: https:// is now expected for all websites, not just those handling sensitive information or accepting payment cards.

There is another thread about this: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6664

In 2018, the answer (from Sonic employee Joe M.) was that HTTPS was a feature of an extra-cost Sonic service called Custom Hosting. I don’t know if that’s still true; you could ask support@sonic.net.

Hello,

It is true that you would need to first purchase an SSL certificate with a third party and after that simply call our support team and we'll be able to provide you with Custom hosting so you can have added security onto your site. You would need to call in though since this cannot be done via the customer member tools portal yourself. We look forward to your call! 707-547-3400

You do not need to *purchase* the SSL certificate any more, as most providers (including Sonic for the Custom Hosting option) will obtain one via Let's Encrypt at no charge. The website hosting service itself may still cost more.
