Can I use a GPON ONT SFP module in my own router in place of the Sonic provided Adtran ONT? For example, this one from Adtran:

or

Thank you!

No, that's not a configuration that we support at this time.

Any update here?

We never use the phone line, and have a router that has a SFP+ internet port available. Having Sonic fiber terminate directly to the router would allow for battery backup, and simplify the setup.

It’s not do-able, because the OLT in our network supports a specific set of ONT/optical terminals in the premise. With PON there is configuration of both ends and it is an integrated system, so while it is standards-based, it’s not interoperable with all GPON (or XGS as the case may be) equipment.

What about the possibility of getting equipment such as the Adtran 602X that have SFP+ user interfaces rather than RJ-45?

We just cannot provide a customized solution like that in a scalable way. It’s not supported by the automation here, plus training and support, provisioning integration etc. Our handoff is a copper Ethernet port. Perhaps you can find a way to connect that to your local equipment. Lots of options for media conversion and cabling types can be put together.

+1 vote for SFP+ interface to keep my MikroTik equipment cool and quiet.
Hi Dane, I would pay the full retail price to Sonic for an SFP+ interface ONT.
I understand Sonic position; remember this use case as technology evolves.
