ping time

I live in Clearlake and I have a ping time of 92. My question, is this a high ping? I read in a post that 30 was the norm. Att ran new wire from the pole to my house about 2 years ago. I do get dropped from the internet at least twice daily for anywhere from 5 to 10 min. each occurrence.
Thanks!

Is this your ping time to the gateway (the .1 address), or to a test somewhere out on the Internet?

I used your support internet speed test and that gave me the ping.

I also wanted to add I left ATT a year and a half ago and went to Sonic. I still use my ATT email address I've had for over 7 years.(Just makes it easier!) I haven't had a problem. Thank you Dane for your response! And I did not have to call India! Customer service is a plus that is becoming rare.

Does your ping time change if you halt all other internet traffic? If you're using a lot of bandwidth when you ping something, that will definitely inflate the response time.

Does this happen around the same time of day usually? We can only look back about 8 hours for your line, but if you had dropouts during this period, the lack of results on our side would usually indicate a problem with the modem.
Looking at your account history, I see you also had interest in the 6mb/s service, but we were denied by AT&T when we tried to place the upgrade order. If you're still interested in trying this, please give Tech Support a call and ask that we try "line remediation" on your line. Line remediation is where we ask an AT&T field tech to go out to your location to see for sure if you can get the 6mb/s service. There's no potential for any charges for the visit.

Why don't you phone support? You'll have better results than posting on the forums.

A quick look at your bandwith and latency charts indicates that the high ping times correspond pretty closely with your line getting saturated with traffic for hours at a time. It is normal and expected that a 3mbps ADSL line using 3mbps (all) of its bandwidth would see increased round-trip times for pings. When your line isn't saturated I'm seeing round-trip times at around 40ms, which is typical for an interleaved circuit.
I suspect the more serious concern here is that you're seeing your line cut out entirely. Have you contacted our Support staff about that behavior? Looking at the past week I see you weren't responding to pings until after the 22nd (which looks like is when you got your most recent IP address), but I don't see any periods of non-responsiveness for the time that I have data for.
