Hi there,

My apologies if this has been answered before, but I ran a few searches here and couldn't find my answers...
Just moved the San Fran from nyc, and I was looking at an alternative solution to Comcast / ATT for TV & HS internet.

Sonic.net tells me that my new apartment (in Cole Valley) is "10,582 wire feet from our local serving office". It seems pretty far away and should give me 4.5Mbps downspeed, and maybe less according to this:

I want to use sonic.net for internet and streaming netflix / hulu / amazon prime.
My plan is to have a Roku 3 in the bedroom for streaming, and a tivo 3 with an antenna in the LR for live national TV + DVR + streaming. Would like to have HD also.

Is 4.5Kbts downstream enough for me ? I really would like to avoid going the Comcast / AT&T route - but not sacrifice quality or or give up HD TV...

Thanks in advance for your help and any suggestion

I'm 11,000 feet and get about 5Mbps net (sync of 6mpbs). This works ok, with a small change to NetFlix settings it streams SD OK, but it feels kinds sluggish these days. A good cable connection is noticeably snappier when browsing. And HD is, well, demanding.

Mokeybrains is a possible option for you http://monkeybrains.net/2011/islands-of ... ncisco.png at 8Mbps.
But your best option, really, would be to convince your landlord to wire the entire building with something really fast.

Thanks for the note - not sure my landlord would let me install anything on his victorian home, but will ask...
If this doesn't work, I guess I'm stuck with comcast...

Thanks

Those are sync speeds. Your actual download speed will be about 13% less or around 3.9Mbps. I sync at a bit over 17Mbps but only download at a max of 14.8Mbps

If it is a single family home, you should share "one better" network connection between the landlord and yourself.
