I've been trying to figure out what's been causing my sync rate to bounce around. At times it's ~7400kbps while at others it's ~1000kbps lower. During the times when it drops down, I've noticed that the amount of 'Uncanceled Echo' becomes 'Suspicious - check phone filters and alarm'. Here are a couple screenshots to illustrate:

Sonic has been kind enough to send me some new equipment, but swapping the modem/filters has not made this go away. Most recently I've installed a Wilcom POTS splitter (and removed the filters from each phone):

To try and provide some more robust filtering, but this has not solved the issue either.

I have to admit that I'm new at this, so maybe I'm making an error somewhere. My current setup is:

Line into house > Wilcom POTS splitter (line)
Wilcom POTS splitter (modem) > one twisted pair of CAT6 > modem
Wilcom POTS splitter (phone) > terminal block > star-configuration for (4) phone connections

Any input would be appreciated.

It looks like you're pushing the limits of Annex A ADSL with those sync rates. What kind of behavior do you see with ADSL2+?

Annex A (and M, L, B, etc) are all ADSL2+ profiles.

Sorry, g.dmt. His g.dmt annex a connection is pushing the limits of that technology. Trying to get a stable line over 6mbps is one of the main reasons we have ADSL2+ to start with, right?

How would I go about reconfiguring the protocol?

Maybe it's an old modem that only does ADSL1?

It shouldn't be an old modem; it's the one that Sonic.net gave me last month. Version info:

John's point was that G.DMT seems like ADSL1, and mine was that Annex A refers to ADSL2+, so there's some ambiguity. Support can look at your actual sync type and DSLAM profile, as well as stability optimization and can see what the actual setup and current config is.

All of that said, if there are issues with the loop, there are issues, and no amount of talking about it here or with support is likely to resolve them. They'd dispatch, and a technician would find and resolve the issues in the loop. Ring support and they can get that started!

A bit more on this; G.DMT and ADSL in general appear to be interchangeable, so I suspect this is an ADSL2+ sync, which the modem is simply calling G.DMT. See:
