Hello,
Up until recently, I've been able to access news.sonic.net from an off-network connection via authing with my sonic username/password, as listed in your wiki:
" Any connection through a provider other than Sonic.net, or connections utilizing the GlobalPOPs, O1, or PacWest dialup groups are considered to be outside of our network. Supernews.sonic.net and news.sonic.net are accessible when using NNTP authentication from such outside connections."

Now, when I attempt to auth from an off network IP, instead of the expected:
281 Ok
I receive:
502 nnrp1.nntp.sonic.net: Access denied to your node - news@nnrp1.nntp.sonic.net

Did something change in regards to this recently?

Thanks,
-aw

Yes, off-net authentication broke. It's fixed now. (This isn't monitored otherwise we would have caught it ourselves.)
