Point Parked Domain Name with Sonic to Tumblr?

I have some domain names parked with Sonic.net, no hosting accounts on them or anything like that (though I do host a site with Sonic). I'm looking to use one of those domain names that I have parked to point to a Tumblr site. It says that -

This domain’s A-record is not pointing to Tumblr.

You need to change your domain’s A-record to:

XXX.XXX.etc Number

I tried unlocking and changing the name servers for the domain name to that set of numbers/IP, but no luck, so I'm assuming that's not the way to do it. Any ideas?

An A record is different than name servers. You should set your name servers back to sonic, then go to the modify host records tool at:
https://members.sonic.net/websites/name ... ayServices
When you click modify for your domain, you'll see a record with "name" as JUST your domain name (nothing else before it) and Type set to "A"
Click "Edit" to the right of that and change the "Record" to the new IP Tumblr is telling you to change it to.
