Will Sonic upgrade DSLAMs to VDSL2? (if not already done?)

In September it was mentioned that it would take about 6 months to deploy VDSL across the Fusion footprint. Is everything still on track for that timeline?

Dane, if reference to Bennett Valley, you stated a few months back "how many of them subscribe is the primary driver of feasibility. We will be releasing a lot more on this topic, as well as area rankings, in the next few months."

Any specifics on Rankings whether it's fiber of VDSL2 (not really up on this stuff)? I think I've been with sonic since 1995 but what I have now is pretty well taxed by my household.

Any timeframe would work as long as I knew it was coming...soon. :D

But your "rankings" of "Santa Rosa, CA" on the new webpage just isn't specific enough...I even wrote the City Council...response was that "We unfortunately do not have any ability to influence extension of Sonic, or other, fiber communications...have not heard of any planned Sonic.net expansion to the Bennett Valley area, but am aware of their work to get fiber to the premise in the Sebastopol, Airport business park and other south-bay areas."...now what?

Will this give any additional speed in the Mission district?

If you are close to the central office (within about a mile), yes. VDSL2 can deliver up to 50Mbps per line.

If you are further from the central office, bonding will deliver 2x the performance, and will become available soon too.

I remember when signing up for Sonic, my estimated distance from the CO was 4700 ft. My current Fusion sync rate is roughly 16 Mb/s down and 1.3 Mb/s up; so, I am hopeful that VDSL2 can get me at least 20% increase in speed. If so, I think that I will be enough to satisfy me.

I am optimistic because when I had U-Verse, I was getting 16 out of the possible 18 Mb subscribed to my line. That makes me think that my circuit should be able to get a decent gain with VDSL2. If not, I would consider bonding if the second line isn't too expensive in proportion to the existing line.

Thanks Sonic for trying to improve our Internet experience. Hopefully the next 6 months will prove a tremendous move in that direction.

PS I realize that you probably have no set timetable on when an area gets done with VDSL deployment, but I do ask if you have any idea when you will get to 91205-Glendale, Ca.?

For people who can benefit from switching their service over to a FTTN circuit, my understanding is that POTS will no longer be available. So I assume at that point voice service will be provided using VoIP (correct me if I'm wrong).

If this is true, what equipment will be needed for voice service? Will there be some sort of VoIP > POTS adapter for running old phones, or will new phones be needed throughout the house (not that I have many at this point)?

Yes, an analog telephone adaptor will be provided.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a FAQ that covers Sonic's VoIP setup, or other sources of relevant information?

(I'm not seeing anything in the support pages, nor any results when searching for 'VoIP'. Is it too early for this right now?)

It's too early for public documentation, but you plug the VOIP box into the modem, you plug the phone into the VOIP box.
