I receive calls periodically from Portland, OR and no one is on the other end. When I call back the number I get a message that the number has been disconnected. It doesn't appear as a sales call but I want to report this as spam.
The number is: 503-452-1124. Their last call was on 3/21 @ 11:23am.

I hope someone at Sonic is checking the numbers reported; most of them so far mentioned do have lots of google hits as sources of odd calls.

I'm surprised there's no voluntary association collecting these -- instead I find dozens of apparently different websites offering to sell tracking info on whatever number you want for $0.99, and that cuts both ways.

Why aren't phone companies doing what UNIX host blocklists do -- collecting and confirming lists of bad sources and sharing them around, so everyone can use them to voluntarily block crap from being sent through their system?

One site I found mentions one reason for the silent phone calls we've been getting -- it's user behavior profiling, finding out where someone is at home during the day.

http://www.callhunter.com/guides/roboca ... -not-speak
"Modern business is no stranger to measurement and quantified optimization. The simple act of answering or not answering the phone tells quite a story. We live a life of patterns with tendencies to work, eat, and watch TV, etc. at roughly the same times each day. This includes availability to answer the phone. Probing calls are logged and analyzed to build an answer profile demonstrating probability to answer the phone. Targeted calling campaigns can be optimized by preemptively building an answer profile with probing. This allows for the best allocation of staff and lines. Probing isn't necessarily performed in isolation as it can be incorporated into any of the above mentioned practices. ..."

Imagine how useful that might be to the wrong kind of people.

I promise we are, and do add what we think is appropriate.

The cynic in me says it is because they stand to loose revenue by doing so or, to put it another way, there are "spam friendly" service providers for both IP and Voice services. (There are also may be regulatory issues.)

Whoever called me two minutes ago, was a boiler shop with, eventually, someone who picked up after I shouted "Hello" repeatedly and said "Hello, sir, how are you?"

I just said Put this number on your do not call list, about three times as he kept talking, and hung up.
Pakistani or Indian accent, quite thick, and a crowd of people in the background all talking.

I suppose I should have gotten his number. I'll break down and buy a modern telephone and see if it will tell me the calling number, sigh.

I received two calls this morning from 512-425-0268, which showed up on my caller ID as a "private" call. I answered the first time, but no one responded. The second call from this number went unanswered, and a voice message on how to make more money was left on my answering machine. I checked online and found a site where 2 other people had complained about this number and had reported it as belonging to a telemarketer, which obviously is true.

I have been receiving 3-4 calls a day for the past two weeks from 415-134-5678. The display only shows California Call. This web search result indicates that it appears to be a collections scam:

It would be nice if this number was added to the blacklist.

Robospam calling itself "Senior medical advisory", some kind of scam for "senior alert services".

Caller ID: HEALDSBURG CA at 707-723-4478
on Fri Mar 29 17:11:39 2013 01:06 long.

They've called several times in the past week.

Hope you can deep six them.

A commenter at http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-707-723-4478
reported this about them today:

I found the source of the calls it is MEDICAL SYSTEMS INC> of Central Florida near Tigertown. 33803 at (863) 683-1170. They were recently signed on to Virtual PBX Inc. carrier out of San Jose California at 95113 1-888-825-0800 (calling this number and reporting the dialer call to customer support will assist in shutting them down sooner and with evidence.) They route the call through VIrtual PBX in San Jose California and back to level 3 communications in Denver, Colorado and through finally through Pac-west communications in Healdsburg california and on to your home. ...
