Hi,
I don't know the rules or necroposting ethics of this forum, but I see a lot of discussion about installation in Berkeley.
I recently moved to 2320 Russell St, where there is only sonic DSL. As a remote worker, this is quite the harsh experience.
The apartment complex across the street at 2321 Russell St has fiber, and I just saw a person from Sonic installing today. Just letting anyone from Sonic know in this forum that me, the landlord, and other tenants would appreciate an installation.
Also, is this the best place to contact sonic about this? Or would talking to a person on the phone yield anything better.
Thanks

Hello, and thanks for reaching out. There is no problem with resurrecting an old thread, we’re happy to take a look.

You are both outside of our current Fiber build out, right on the boundary as you mentioned.

We checked in with Engineering, and there were technical reasons we could not bring fiber to these locations when we did the original build. It looks like some of those issues have been or can be resolved, but we are also dealing with other issues.

The best way to indicate lasting interest and ‘get on the list’ is to place a Fiber pre-order, but you do not need to do that as long as you keep existing service. Once new FDA’s open up, we automatically start the process of migrating existing customers. Pre-orders and existing customers is how we aggregate interest and form decisions about where we should edge out existing network.

We do not have any projected timelines, and be aware that this process could take months or perhaps years to complete.

I hope this is helpful. We really do work hard to reach as many existing customers as possible, and every build has it’s own unique blend of challenges and opportunities.

Thank you,

I’m upgrading some equipment at our house and wondering whether speeds above 1Gbps are planned in Berkeley for residences, and rough expected year of deployment.
