Oh, and here's why:

Jun 30, 2014 - Big Labor dealt setback as Court reins in coercive dues collection. Today, The United States Supreme Court struck a blow ....

Let's see -- unlimited money, that's going to pay for a whole lot of spam calls.

We can block these, right? They're not exempt since they're not specific to elections?

Because if they are going to do to the plain old telephone what they already did to AM radio and the newspapers, I'm shutting off the ringer and telling my friends how to reach me. And eliminating the plain old telephone is part of what they want to accomplish, dammit.

Want to stop SPAMMERS from calling you? Make up a business name and start answering your phone with that name if you see what looks like a 'telemarketer' phone number on your caller ID. It's still against the law for telemarketers to contact businesses!

Example on how to answer the phone when you see those numbers come up:

"Good Morning/Afternoon, Acme Pool Company"

You will hear this next: "Oh, sorry, wrong number" or "click" they've hung up!
Your number will then be removed from their list!

You're welcome! :D

I receive calls from YVM 650.888.2696 ten or so times a week. Michael D. in support said I can't block specific numbers, but should report it here. (This number has been reported on YELP as an incessant spammer.) Thanks. --PlayfulGeek

The overwhelming majority of spammers are using autodialers. The people behind them don't care if they're calling businesses.

My desk phone at work rings with 10x as many junk calls as my home line. The only unwanted callers that actually remove me from their lists are the collection agencies looking for the person who formerly used that number. The rest call over and over and over ...

Just got a message purporting to be from the IRS and threatening me with arrest if I didn't call back.

Have started getting ~2 calls a day from:

NASHUA NH 603-546-9887

They leave short messages with random background noise, and are listed on various sites around the web as telemarketers. Please add to the block list, thanks!

"Callerpages is an online phone book consisting of phone pages with spam ratings, user reports and reverse phone lookup tools."

Pity there are so many different sites trying to offer the same service.
Great way to split up the reports to make it harder to determine patterns, eh?
Yes, that's one that I hadn't visited before, but it's like most of the rest, you seldom find the number you're interested in listed, and although you can report a new one, I doubt that it's an effective solution. At best, it probably gives you somewhat of a feeling that you're doing something about it.

Until enough people get angry enough about this practice that the phone companies and politicians are forced to deal with it and stop it at its source, I think we're just going to have to put up with it. Call your phone service provider. Call your Congressman's office. If they start getting flooded with complaints, they certainly have the technology to fix the problem.

I'm getting 3-4 calls a day from this number, every day. It's a robocall about lowering interest rates. Please make it stop
