You may want to search the forum for "Why does Sonic.net restrict incoming port 25?".

You'll see some discussion about how Sonic doesn't really want you to run a server on their home fiber connection and they may not allow port 25 access.

Considering I have a business grade DSL connection now and have been running my own mail and web service for 12 years. I'm not about stop doing that. I'm not a business but I insist on the level of service that provides. If Sonic doesn't provide a similar level of fiber service then perhaps I need to look for an ISP that does. That would be disappointing given how many years I've been with Sonic, but if that's my only option then I guess that's how I will have to proceed. Comcast offers a business grade connection over cable now and it's much faster than DSL I guess I need to look into that now.

That is what I want, yet I keep finding contraditions about what that actually is, and where/how it can be deployed. And, I guess, it's moot until fiber actually rolls here in Los Altos. I guess once that happens I'll revisit this whole topic.
